*This song was conceived in three parts; I was up at a party in Point Arena, CA and a local told me about using open tunings to write new, different sounding songs. He said to try a D tuning…
A friend of mine listened to me talking about my life and all the things I wanted to do and she said,” You can’t push the river…”
The bridge came from a memory of a Gabrielle Roth tape I had where she talked about the Skeleton Woman…
I put the three new ideas together and The River was born…

Jessica Star- vocal, acoustic guitar
Joseph Blackfeather- bass
Winter- electric sitar, slide guitar
Mark Abbott- drums, percussion

Lyrics

You can’t push the river no matter how hard you try
It will just keep flowing on by
Like a fish swimming upstream, it’s a good day to die
Finally, a moment to gaze into the sun
And don’t you know, it is easier to follow the flow of a river
You can merge with mountains; it’s all in your mind
Whatever you seek you will find
The seeker is the knower just waiting to unwind
Listening to the silence of your soul
And don’t you know, it is easier to follow the flow of a river
I am a journeying wanderer; I am a shaper of song
I am shaking the skeleton woman; I am rattling her bones
‘Cause I know she is my way home
Yes, I know she is my way home
You can’t push the river no matter how hard you try
It will just keep flowing on by
And don’t you know, it is easier to follow the flow of a river…
